Recently released unemployment figures show that unemployment in Morecambe and Lunesdale has fallen by 35 % since February 2010.
The current number of unemployed in Morecambe and Lunesdale is 1330 which is 11 down from January 2016. This figure includes 790 people claiming JSA and 540 claiming Universal Credit. The figures in Morecambe and Lunesdale represent 3.3% of the economically active population compared with 5.1% nationally.
Speaking after receiving these figures David Morris MP said: ‘I am delighted that the unemployment level in Morecambe and Lunesdale is now only 3.3% of the economically active population. I welcome further investment locally to improve this figure every further and believe that the opening of the link road and the opening of the Frontier land project on the promenade will impact these figures even further.’
