David Morris MP will host a Westminster Hall debate on Wednesday morning next week (29th October) on a possible Transport Tunnel under Morecambe Bay.
David has been campaigning for a traffic tunnel under Morecambe Bay to link vital services and industry quicker to the M6 via the M6 Link road currently being built in his constituency. National Grid are currently consulting on a power tunnel under Morecambe Bay, David has been to visit an example of this in London, which shows that the technology exists for a traffic tunnel to be built. Although David’s project is entirely separate to the proposals of National Grid.
The debate in Westminster Hall will be at 11am and will be answered by a Minister from the Department of Transport.
David Morris MP said:
‘Infrastructure in my constituency is key to economic expansion. I secured the £123 Million pounds of Government funding for the M6 Link, and now that is well on the way to being built, it is time to look for future projects to further improve connectivity in the area. The Cumbria coast is the energy coast and the Tunnel would link Nuclear Power in Heysham with Selafield and also link BAE Systems to the M6. This I am sure would create employment opportunities for youngsters in Morecambe and Lunesdale.’
‘It would also serve as a better link for our hospitals as patients and staff would be able to travel much more easily between the two sites of Lancaster and Barrow’
