The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris has welcomed news that the Department For Transport has given Lancashire County Council more than £4.9 Million to repair potholes. The fund has the potential to repair around 92,000 potholes across the County.
This funding comes months after Lancashire County Council received more than £2 Million from the Government’s Weather Repair Fund. The County will also receive more than £18 Million in 2014 – 2015 from the government’s road maintenance block funding which is designed for management, investment and improvement of the road network.
David Morris MP said:
“Potholes are the bane of most driver’s lives, this funding is a step in the right direction of ridding our roads of potholes. I am pleased that the Secretary of State for Transport has made this announcement. This funding is in addition to more than £2Million received in March to repair damage caused by the bad weather during the winter.”
“I know that drivers and businesses in Morecambe & Lunesdale will welcome this because ultimately, improvements to our infrastructure can only be good for the wider economy. I have been campaigning hard to improve our transport infrastructure, therefore, it is also important to keep in mind that the Government is currently funding £111 Million for the Heysham M6 Link Road that has been mooted for decades, I am currently talking to Lancashire County Council about the potential of electrifying the Lancaster to Morecambe branch line, I have campaigned for more trains to stop at Carnforth and I am regularly in contact with the Department for Transport about potential new projects to improve our connectivity.”
