The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris has been elected as the Chairman of the House of Commons cross-party Coastal and Marine All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG.) David has taken over the Chairmanship from Communities and Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis MP.
David Morris MP said:
“Coastal communities such as my Morecambe & Lunesdale constituency face unique challenges, the group will represent these challenges to Government.”
“I have written on behalf of the Coastal Committee to Eric Pickles MP to demand that regional development funding be channelled into the Coastal Communities Fund
for seaside areas, to assist regeneration in Coastal resorts.”
“I also welcome the news that Morecambe will get 10million from the Environment Agency to build a new sea wall against flooding.”
In 2010, following a high profile campaign, David held a Parliamentary debate and asked Minister Richard Benyon MP to reverse the previous Governments decision to stop sea defences from being installed at the historic Sunderland Point. The Minister complied and Sunderland Point was saved from erosion into the sea.
