First World War Heroes were today remembered in the first poppy scatter at Happy Mount Park in Morecambe.
Local man Steve Trainor is behind the initiative and he hopes that people all over Morecambe & Lunesdale will sow poppy seeds so that when the 100th anniversary of the First World War is commemorated over the summer the poppies will be in bloom.
Hundreds of local people including ex service personnel, local children and the Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris gathered to show their respects and to officially launch the project.
Speaking from Happy Mount Park David Morris MP said:
“I think the poppy scatter is a great idea and is an opportunity for the whole community to remember those served during the first world war.”
“I’d like to encourage everyone to sow some poppy seeds in their own gardens, in post in back yards and in hanging baskets so that the whole constituency will be in bloom in a few months.”
