The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris took to the buses on Friday to gauge public opinion about Lancashire County Council’s proposals to withdraw funding for some bus services.
David travelled on buses through Carnforth, Halton, Over Kellet and Nether Kellet.
Speaking from Carnforth David Morris MP said:
“The overwhelming view is that Lancashire County Council should leave these vital bus services alone.”
“Some of the buses that will be affected are vital rural services to places like Halton, Arkholme and the Kellets.”
Constituents are being encouraged to sign David’s petition which can be found on www.davidmorrismp.co.uk.
David added “I would encourage you to print my petition and sign it, also ask your friends and neighbours to sign it.”
A number of constituents have commented when signing the petition:
“Buses are crucial for the villages.”
“An appalling example of Misjudgement by County Councillors and their unelected senior officers. This must not be allowed to happen.”
“The current proposals potentially affect the quality of life of all residents without access to cars. ALL residents (whether urban or rural) are vulnerable to the proposals in the sense that implementation is likely to make it more difficult for urban residents to visit friends and relatives living in rural areas as well as making it more difficult for rural residents to visit friends and relatives (and access essential, commercial, professional and recreational services) in urban areas.”
