David Morris MP has welcomed news that three wards in Morecambe & Lunesdale will appear on the Assisted Areas Map.
Assisted area status makes local businesses eligible to bid for additional funding and tax breaks to create jobs, invest in new premises or machinery and grow. Programmes in England that offer regional aid include the Regional Growth Fund and the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain initiative.
The three wards are Poulton, Westgate and Overton. This means that the assisted area takes in a number of key industrial areas including the Port of Heysham and White Lund Industrial Estate.
David Morris MP said:
“I welcome the news that parts of Morecambe & Lunesdale will appear on the Assisted Areas Map, I am certain this will really boost the local economy.”
“Under the previous Labour Government Morecambe & Lunesdale experienced severe under investment. This status together with the Heysham M6 Link Road is great news for our fantastic local businesses.”
