The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris will today table a Parliamentary motion which welcomes the coalition government’s investment in local GP services.
The House of Commons motion welcomes the British Medical Association’s ‘Your GP Cares Campaign’ and welcomes news that Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group (“CCG”) has received over £1 Million from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund which will enable five GP practices to open seven days a week from 8am – 8pm with telephone triage and X-Ray facilities improving access to GP services for 61,000 patients.
David also congratulated the Cumbria CCG for investing their £8.3 Million surplus in improving patient care.

“The Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund will vastly improve the access that my constituents have to GP’s and is very welcome news. I wanted to table this motion to praise the great work our local GP’s do to keep our communities healthy while also highlighting the support the government has given locally.”

The motion reads:
That this House welcomes the British Medical Association's Your GP Cares campaign; recognises that the UK family doctor service is widely admired around the world; notes that the increased demand on general practice caused by demographic changes, more complex health needs and care moving out of hospitals is contributing to challenging pressures on the service … Congratulates the coalition Government for formulating the Prime Ministers Challenge scheme which allows GP’s to run an effective out of hours scheme which gives patients better access to their GP’s services; further congratulates the Government for giving Lancashire North CCG over 1 Million pounds to allow 5 practices in the area to be open from 8am -8pm ; and further congratulates Cumbria CCG for allowing their 8.3 million pounds operational surplus in the last financial year to be spent improving patient care in Cumbria.
