David Morris MP today visited the site office for the M6 Link project to see how the road build was progressing. David met with the site manager from Costain, Andrew Langley, who showed David the progress of the project.
As part of the M6 Link contract, Costain have promised to employ 100 unemployed people on the project. Costain have currently employed 72 people who were unemployed, at one third of the way through the project.
Mr Langley also stated that regardless of the contract having a local workforce on the By-pass is important to Costain. Currently 90% of the Costain labour force on the site have an LA postcode.
Speaking after the visit David Morris MP said:
‘After almost 60 years of being talked about the road is finally well on the way to being built. It is great to see Costain training and engaging with local people through employing and training people without a job to work on the site, and by allowing the public to view certain aspects of the build. This road will be a huge asset to our area once it is built bringing with it millions of investment into the local economy.’
Whilst David visited the site he also took part in the production of a video being made by Morecambe Bay Movie Makers, which is documenting the build of the road. David’s comments will be included in the December version of the documentary. Previous videos can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/channels/784033/115767913.
