After Wednesday's debate into a transport Tunnel under Morecambe Bay from Heysham to the Barrow area David Morris MP has written to the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership and urged them to back the scheme.
Speaking in the debate yesterday Transport Minister Robert Goodwill said:
‘It is clear that my hon. Friend the Member for Morecambe and Lunesdale has a bold vision of how transport investment, through the provision of a tunnel under Morecambe Bay, can support local growth. The Government believe that local people and organisations are best places to understand the needs of their areas and support and boost growth. Therefore, while I support his ambition, I suggest that he engages actively with the Lancashire and Cumbria LEP’S to promote this matter further.’
David Morris MP has taken this advice and today has urged the Lancashire Enterprise partnership to support the project as part of the next round of the Growth Programme funding the Enterprise Partnerships can apply for.
David Morris MP said:
‘I have written to the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership explaining all of the economic benefits that a Tunnel under Morecambe Bay would bring to the area, as explained in the chamber yesterday. I think this project would be a great opportunity for the Enterprise Partnership to support a project outside of Preston that would bring Billions of pounds of investment into North Lancashire. ‘
