David Morris MP has spoken today in the Kirkup inquiry statement and praised the staff in the Hospital Trust and has called on the opposition to stop scaremongering about our hospital services and to have some more respect for the staff who are treating patients.
Speaking in the statement David Morris MP said:
‘I would like to thank my rt hon friend the Secretary of State, for such a deep and meaningful statement. In my constituency the effects of what has happened in our Trust has been deeply felt. I would also like to reach out to my hon friend outside of the chamber, the hon member for Barrow, when we have to put everything behind us.
And in my constituency we do have a campaign to say the hospital is closing and the staff and the new management there are beside themselves with this particular issue. Would my hon friend agree with me that this has now got to stop because hospitals were never going to close down and at the end of the day, the staff are the only people that are suffering in all of this.’
In response Jeremey Hunt MP said:
‘I think this is the time when the whole house needs to unite behind the staff in that Trust who are working very very hard to turn the situation around and indeed have made great progress. I actually had to call Nicola Adam at the Visitor to reaffirm that there are absolutely no plans to close the hospital and I hope that the whole House will recognise that statement for what it is, and reiterate it in their communications with their constituents.'
