The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris will be spending some time travelling on the bus today. David will be asking those travelling on the buses for their opinions after Lancashire County Council announced it was to consult on withdrawing funding for some services.
David Morris MP said:
“A large number of constituents have contacted me to say they are upset that Lancashire County Council has decided to consult on withdrawing vital bus services.”
“My constituents rely on these bus services and if the County Council does withdraw funding, it will be a huge disappointment to many constituents.”
The services that are under threat link Heysham, Morecambe and Carnforth as well as villages such as Halton and Arkholme.
David Morris MP has launched a petition to campaign against Lancashire County Council’s consultation which can be found on www.davidmorrismp.co.uk.
David added “I would encourage you to print my petition and sign it, also ask your friends and neighbours to sign it.”
A number of constituents have commented when signing the petition:
“Buses are crucial for the villages.”
“An appalling example of Misjudgement by County Councillors and their unelected senior officers. This must not be allowed to happen.”
“The current proposals potentially affect the quality of life of all residents without access to cars. ALL residents (whether urban or rural) are vulnerable to the proposals in the sense that implementation is likely to make it more difficult for urban residents to visit friends and relatives living in rural areas as well as making it more difficult for rural residents to visit friends and relatives (and access essential, commercial, professional and recreational services) in urban areas.”
