The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris has welcomed news that unemployment has dropped in the Morecambe & Lunesdale constituency. According to figures released by the Office of National Statistics there is now fewer people unemployed than there was in January 2012. Unemployment in Morecambe & Lunesdale currently accounts for 5.2% of the economically active population of the constituency.
The Secretary of State for Transport Patrick Mc Loughlin will consult Virgin Trains on the possibility of trains taking on and dropping off passengers at Carnforth Station. David Morris MP has previously met with Virgin Trains and Network Rail to ascertain if it would be possible to pick up passengers when the trains ‘stable’ at Carnforth.
The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health Dr. Dan Poulter has today reassured Morecambe & Lunesdale constituents that there are no plans and never have been any plans to close the Accident and Emergency Department at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The reassurance came from Dr. Poulter after Mr. Morris received a number of letters from constituents who were concerned that the A&E Department would close.
David Morris MP is today encouraging constituents to bid for a slice of the Coastal Communities Fund. In the last round, Morecambe Bay Partnership was awarded £490,000. This year the Government has committed £27.8 Million to the fund.
