The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris will this evening (Saturday 3rd August) welcome hundreds of bikers who are taking part in the Thankful Villages Run.
The journey started in Llanfihangel y Creuddyn, near Aberystwyth, on Saturday the 27th July and will finish in the same village at 7pm on Sunday 4th August. The run is calling in at the fifty-one villages where everyone who served in World War One between 1914-1918 returned home safely. Before the riders finish for the day in Arkholme they will visit Nether Kellet. The riders will then spend their last night at Docker Park Farm in Arkholme. The village of Arkholme sent 59 service personnel and thankfully all 59 returned safely.
The organisers Medwyn Parry and Dougie Bancroft have spent eight months planning the trip and hope to raise £51,000 for the Royal British Legion.
Speaking from Arkholme David Morris MP said:
“I am looking forward to welcoming the bikers to Arkholme, what Medwyn and Dougie have done is incredible. Tonight will be a celebration but at the same time I want the young people of Arkholme and surrounding villages to remember those involved in conflict in the early 1900’s but also for us to keep in our contemplations those currently serving in the forces both here and overseas.”
Those attending Docker Park Open Farm will be treated to a BBQ, inter-village games, vintage military vehicles and live traditional wartime music.
The bikers will begin the final day of their ride on Sunday 4th August at 8am, leaving from Arkholme Parish Church.
