The Vale of Lune plan to use their money to fix the roof and frontage of their club house, Morecambe & Heysham Yacht Club hope to upgrade their premises and facilities for training and developing sailing.
Minister for Sport Hugh Robertson said: “This £40 million injection of National Lottery funding will be a huge boost to local sports facilities across the country. Coming a year on from hosting the London 2012 Games it demonstrates our commitment to a tangible and long lasting sports legacy. The Inspired Facilities fund has been a massive success and by extending it to 2017 it will help encourage many more people to get involved in community sport.”
Vale of Lune Club Chairman, Geoff Marsden said, ”We are over the moon at receiving this terrific news. The roof has been a problem for many years, despite regular repairs and maintenance, and is effectively now well past its sell by date. We shall also replace the frontage, which will include double glazing, to provide a pleasanter environment, a saving on heating bills whilst improving our own carbon footprint. Our many regular users of the club will be delighted at this super development which can only enhance the already splendid facilities to be found at the Vale of Lune. It also fits well with the club’s programme of continual improvement.”
Commodore Phil Preston of Morecambe & Heysham Yacht Club said: “It’s a great move forward for the club and will increase the opportunity to get more people sailing.”
