The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris has taken the memory of Greg Richardson to Parliament.
Greg passed away recently from liver damage and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) at the age of 15 following an accident on his bicycle.
Last week, David Morris MP met with Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt to make him aware of the case, David Morris MP also asked a question in the House of Commons.
Responding on behalf of the Government, Health Minister Anna Soubry explained that DVT is extremely rare in children, adding, “this is an area which would benefit from further study and sharing of experience and exemplar practice.”
Lancashire’s Royal Blackburn Hospital is currently researching in this area to develop a protocol Mrs Soubry added:
“The Royal Blackburn hospital's protocol on dealing with children with DVT has been brought to the attention of those responsible for delivery of the National Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Programme. It is the responsibility of NHS England to make decisions on whether to adopt the Royal Blackburn hospital's protocol on dealing with children with DVT.”
Speaking from his office in Westminster David Morris MP said:
“I am pleased that the Minister thinks DVT in children would benefit from further study and I hope that once the Royal Blackburn Hospital develops its protocol NHS England will consider adopting it.”
