The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris has welcomed DEFRA’s notification that The first draft of the Morecambe Hybrid Fisheries Order will be in place within a matter of weeks.
David Morris MP has been working with the North West Sea Fisheries Committee for several years to ensure that unscrupulous people can never again fish in Morecambe Bay while also safeguarding fishing stocks for bone fide skilled fishermen.
Speaking from Westminster the Morecambe & Lunesdale MP said:
“I wrote to the Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon MP. Richard has now assured me that DEFRA’s legal officials are currently working on the Morecambe Order.”
“Defra have recently met with North Western SFC and supports their application for a Shellfish Order. The Order will allow the SFC to improve the management of the fishery and ensure a environmentally sustainable and economically viable fishery in Morecambe Bay. “
