Following the surface water flooding on the 19th August David Morris MP wrote to Councillor Geoff Driver to ask for a full assessment to be carried out on the drainage system in Morecambe and Lunesdale to ensure that properties do not flood again this winter.
Following the further flooding in the early hours of this morning where extremely heavy rain fell, David has written again to County Councillor Driver to stress the urgency of work to clear the drainage system.
David Morris MP said:
‘Due to further surface flooding overnight where roads across Morecambe and Lunesdale were left unsafe to pass due to flooding I have again written to County Councillor Driver to ensure that the County Council are acting quickly to clear drains to prevent any further flooding.
It is simply unacceptable that certain roads are flooding on a weekly basis due to exceptional rainfall, and I have asked for assurances from County that this matter is being addressed as a priority before we see any further summer storms.
I have also today been speaking with United Utilities as they are responsible for the storm water drainage and they will be keeping me updated with any updates during the course of the day.
If you see any flood water that appears to be not surface water but sewage water please call United Utilities immediately on 0345 672 3723 .
