During today’s treasury questions David Morris MP asked the Chancellor if he would officially open the M6 Link Road. The Chancellor has agreed to open the road as long as it fits in with his diary.
Speaking in the Chamber today David Morris MP said:
‘In 1945 there was a dream of a Link Road from the M6 to Heysham Port. 10% of our GDP comes in through Heysham Port. That Link Road will soon be opening. Does my Right Hon Friend the Chancellor agree with me that part of the long term economic plan is to show that this area of Lancashire is going to be regenerated? And more to the Point would my Right Hon Friend, diary permitting, would like to open the road?’
In response Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne MP said:
‘I remember visiting the road with my Rt Hon Friend the Prime Minister, as it happens just days before the General Election. And because he had been such a good champion of his constituency his constituent’s said lets have him back in Parliament championing more investment in Lancashire.
Diary Permitting I would be delighted to open the Link Road. Indeed when I was in Northern Ireland yesterday at Warren Point I met the company that trades between Heysham and Warren Point and they are investing in new jobs there.’
