The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP David Morris has today written to Labour Party Leader Ed Miliband blaming him for the recent increases in energy prices. In the letter David Morris said:
“Now that most of our energy companies have hiked their prices by 10 per cent and the majority have offers to fix the price till the end of 2016 what use is your price freeze policy?
It seems to me that you have successfully created a run on the energy markets causing them to inflate prices on the off chance you may become Prime minister. Well done. “
David Morris also makes the point that when Miliband was the Secretary of State for Energy he failed to freeze energy prices, writing:
“The last time there was a similar offer from the energy companies to fix in a 3 year deal, you were the Energy Secretary. On that occasion the gas prices were volatile from the former Soviet Union and you were powerless to freeze the markets then so why do you think you can do it now.”
David Morris, the Chairman of Conservative Friends of Nuclear Power, also accused the Labour Leader that his policy has the potential of damaging the nuclear power industry:
“The policy will penalise my constituents who work in the Nuclear Power Industry as they would see their wages frozen for over two years, should on the off chance you become Prime Minister.”
“It is evident your idea has caused a run on the energy sector wiping a billion off the stock exchange in the energy markets and in return that cost has now been passed on to the consumer! “
The letter in full reads:
Dear Ed,
Now that most of our energy companies have hiked their prices by 10 per cent and the majority have offers to fix the price till the end of 2016 what use is your price freeze policy?
It seems to me that you have successfully created a run on the energy markets causing them to inflate prices on the off chance you may become Prime minister. Well done.
The last time there was a similar offer from the energy companies to fix in a 3 year deal, you were the Energy Secretary. On that occasion the gas prices were volatile from the former Soviet Union and you were powerless to freeze the markets then so why do you think you can do it now.
I note with interest that you have at least taken advantage of the lowest tariff regulation this government brought in saving you hundreds on your gas bill. Why did you not think of this when you were in the department of energy?
The policy will penalise my constituents who work in the Nuclear Power Industry as they would see their wages frozen for over two years, should on the off chance you become Prime Minister.
It is evident your idea has caused a run on the energy sector wiping a billion off the stock exchange in the energy markets and in return that cost has now been passed on to the consumer!
I would like to know your thoughts on these observations.
Kind regards
