David Morris MP has campaigned for several years for more trains to stop at Carnforth, however, the campaign has taken an unusual twist with a new development. Following a letter to Network Rail it has been confirmed to David that the West Coast Mainline Platforms at Carnforth are not closed, they have been ‘withdrawn.’
Speaking from his Morecambe & Lunesdale constituency David explains:
“I explored the possibility that the platforms weren’t closed when a constituent of mine who is extremely knowledgeable on matters relating to rail, pointed out that in 1970 the platforms were withdrawn and not closed. There is a slight technical difference and it means that in theory the platforms are still open even though they aren’t physically there.”
David Morris will now write to the Secretary of State for Transport Patrick Mc Loughlin to request that the platforms are placed back at Carnforth Station next to the West Coast Mainline track. A previous letter to Mr. Mc Loughlin resulted in a promise that Mr. Mc Loughlin would consult with Virgin Trains about picking up passengers at Carnforth.
David Morris added:
“I need the whole community to get behind me and write to Network Rail requesting that they place the platforms back in their rightful place at Carnforth Station. “
