David Morris MP has welcomed news that more than one Million pounds will be invested in improving GP access in Morecambe & Lunesdale.
The Open Doors projects has received £1, 137, 132 from the Prime Ministers Challenge fund, this will mean that five GP practices in Morecambe will open from 8am – 8pm seven days a week improving GP access for 61,000 patients and will establish a telephone triage system so that patients can be guided to the most appropriate service.
Patients will also have access to an improved range of minor injury services, including treatments for fractures, cuts and sprains, to avoid hospital admissions, with an out-of-hours X-ray service and access to an app.
David Morris MP said:
“I am very pleased that this money will come to Morecambe, constituents having access to a GP seven days a week from 8am until 8pm is very important to me. I think the triage system will prove very popular as it will direct constituents to the most appropriate service for their needs.
“Behind the scenes I wrote a number of letters of support for this project and overall it’s great news for my constituents.”
Prime Minister David Cameron MP said:
“Back in October, I said I wanted to make it easier for people to get appointments that fit in around a busy working week and family commitments.”
“There has been a great response from doctors, with lots of innovative ideas, and we will now see over seven million patients given weekend and evening opening hours, alongside more access to their family doctor on the phone, via email or even Skype.”
“This is an important step and good news for patients.”
