David Morris MP was recently invited to meet with members of Lancaster John O Gaunt Rowing Club at their site on Halton Road in Skerton. The invitation came following the flooding the club were subjected to in December 2016 and was an opportunity for David Morris MP to see the progress the club had been able to make with the repairs as a result of the Sport England funding for clubs whose equipment and premises had been damaged following flooding.
Speaking after the visit David Morris MP said:
‘ I was extremely impressed by the rowing club and their commitment to continuing to use their facilities for rowing even in the face of the serious damage caused by storm Desmond. I was pleased that they had been able to access the Sports England flooding fund and it was brilliant to see the new roofing where the boats are being stored.
From the meeting I took away a few points to Government to help the club in the future one of them I have since had a positive outcome. The bed of the river at the top of the weir was littered with debris from the floods. The environment Agency have confirmed that this area will be being dredged as soon as they are able as part of the cleanup works from the flooding.’
