Over the last few weeks a large number of constituents have been contacting me to express their concern at Lancaster City Councils plans to build on the green belt in certain areas. These plans are currently in a consultation period with the City Council and it is important that all constituents contact the City Council directly to ensure their views are heard. I have been sending the following note to people who have contacted me on this issue:
Thank you for contacting me about your concerns with the latest proposals from Lancaster City Council for their local plan.
As the Member of Parliament I have no formal authority to exert over Lancaster City Council and I would therefore urge you to contact your local city councillor (http://www.lancaster.gov.uk/councillors/) as they are the elected representatives who are representing your views on this issue.
I would also urge you to ensure that you take part in the City Council’s consultation process on these new proposals.(http://www.lancaster.gov.uk/planning/local-plan/local-planning-policy/work-in-progress/land-allocations-dpd/). The consultation is now open until the 30th November and comments can be sent to planningpolicy@lancaster.gov.uk, and is the best way to ensure that the proposals do not go ahead. I too will be writing a response to the consultation but I will be waiting till near the end of the period to ensure that all constituents who contact me views are encompassed in my submission.
I hope you are able to contribute to the Council’s consultation and I look forward to seeing the outcome which I hope will not include building on the green belt.
